DBM Community Responder Scheme
This video is definitely worth a watch for all our responders. Not for the faint hearted.
As CFR's our responders can give basic treatment to the patient including
- administration of Aspirin
- information gathering
- monitoring the patients vital signs
- preparing an effective handover to the ambulance crew on their arrival
This occurs when something gets caught in the airway and either partially or fully blocks the air from entering the lungs.
If a patient has a partial blockage they should be encouraged to cough in an attempt to clear the obstruction.
If the airway of an adult is completely blocked the Heimlich maneuver and back slaps are needed.
If the patient falls into unconsciousness you must revert to doing CPR for the patient.
